FAQ

Most (if not all) of this is made up; I guess these are the questions I would ask.

If you have additional questions, let me know and I will try to answer and update this entry for recurring ones.

Who are you?
I'm just this guy, you know. I just happen to enjoy tinkering around and thought that it would be good to have somewhere to ramble about it. Especially in case I want to come back to it at some point, since I tend to see documenting these things as quite boring.

And if someone finds some of this useful, well, the better for everyone.

You can find out more in my Google+ profile. You have a link on the right sidebar.

What's this blog about?
The title says it all, really. I am starting it to follow my side projects with the Raspberry Pi, which I got a few months ago (at the time of writing) and the Parallella that I backed in Kickstarter and I should be getting soon.

So you can expect to see some updates about the devices themselves, and a smallish number of projects coming up and (hopefully) getting to some kind of end, preferably a successful one.

What kind of projects are those you keep blabbing about?
Mostly things that tingle my fancy and I set up to build. Last time it was an RPN calculator to substitute the standard one; the next one is a dice-rolling tool to play (tabletop) role playing games such as Vampire or Legend of the Five Rings with my friends remotely using Hangouts.

In a more serious note, I will probably be posting about a meta-optimization algorithm that I am building my PhD around. If you are interested in the geeky details, it is a multiverse-inspired adaptation that can be applied to any evolutive, population-based metaheuristic. If that doesn't ring a bell for you, don't worry, it's perfectly normal. If you understand it you had better see a doctor about it!

So what are you selling?
Nothing. I work in the steel industry, so nothing there that could relate to this.

No, really, what do you get out of this?
It's fun, and in case it takes off I will probably get an ego boost (who wouldn't?). In a more tangible way, I might at some time switch on AdSense and let one or two discrete ads show in the blog. That's all.

When you have grown learning from here and there, and depending on free software and knowledge you get a view that really makes sharing something good in itself. We will all advance more and faster by working together.

Do I detect a hint of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and/or Discworld in here?
How should I know? Do you?

If you do, you are likely right. Just as we are what we eat, we write what we read, so it may show a little bit. But I would need the Heart of Gold or Death's horse to get to their level, of course. Also, Tolkien wrote (citing Dasent) in Beowulf: The Monsters and the Critics that "we must be satisfied with the soup that is set before us, and not desire to see the bones of the ox out of which it has been boiled".

If you don't (because you don't know what on Earth I'm talking about), you should go and google it. Or read about it in Wikipedia. Or better yet, read the books. Go on! I'll wait for you.
